Good Sam UMC - a History

The very first worship service of our church in 1957

We are looking for help!  Good Sam has a dozen binders with dozens of historic documents and many dozen photographs.  We're looking for people who are willing and able to help us electronically capture all this historic information and make it available on this web site.  If you are interested in helping with this project please contact John Brawn.

In the mean time, a slide set and video (available below) were created for the Homecoming Celebration in September 2003.  The slide set includes a general overview of the major historical events at Good Sam, from the beginning of our church in 1957 through the completion of the education wing in 1990.  It's available in several formats including a downloadable PowerPoint file, web based slides, and a video of the slides as narrated by Arle, Mel and John Brawn.

The video includes highlights from three significant and interesting events in the life of the church -- the Sanctuary dedication service in November 1984, the first Good Sam sponsored Habitat for Humanity trip in Guatemala in summer, 1991, and the first Damascus Road concert sometime in the late 80s.
